The Weinstein Co. has given an awards-season release date of September 18 for transgender drama “Three Generations,” starring Naomi Watts, Elle Fanning and Susan Sarandon.

TWC won the bidding at the Cannes Film Festival last month after buyers were shown a promo reel of the project, directed by Gaby Dellal from Nikole Beckwith’s script. TWC paid $6 million for U.S. rights with a minimum 500-screen commitment.

Fanning plays a New York teenager seeking to transition from female to male. Watts portrays her mother and Sarandon is her lesbian grandmother.

Producers are Big Beach’s Marc Turtletaub and Peter Saraf, along with Dorothy Berwin. Big Beach also financed “Three Generations.” [Source]

Elle Fanning and Diego Luna have joined the cast of Clay Jeter’s sci-fi pic IO, a project that was developed at the Sundance Institute’s Writers Lab and Sundance Catalyst Forum. Jeter, who made the 2011 Sundance Film Festival pic Jess + Moss, wrote the script with Will Basanta and Charles Spano.

The character-driven IO, slated to begin production sometime this year, tells the story of a girl’s coming of age while examining the dangers of humanity’s current relationship with the planet. Fanning will play the teen surviving as one of the last people on an abandoned post-cataclysmic Earth, who is racing to find a cure for her poisoned home world before the last shuttle off the planet to the distant human space colony leaves her stranded. Luna will play a complicated and mysterious refugee on his way to the shuttle launch who makes her question whether she can really alter Earth’s fate.

“We are so excited for Elle to bring her charisma and fearlessness to the demanding role of the tragically obsessed idealist Sam,” said Jeter. “And Diego’s chameleon-like versatility makes him a perfect choice for the secretive and enigmatic Micah. I’m really looking forward to a creative collaboration with these incredibly talented and committed actors to bring the characters of IO to life.”

“It was always my dream to
play a princess. I watched
all the animated Disney
films, and there were two blondes like me: Cinderella

liked Cinderella, but Aurora
in Sleeping Beauty was
mine because of her pink

Elle Fanning has been revealed as the face of Miu Miu’s Spring 2014 collection.

MIU MIU has named its new campaign stars – four rising actresses: Elle Fanning, Elizabeth Olsen, Lupita Nyong’o and Bella Heathcote.

The minimal yet bold images were shot by Inez & Vinoodh in New York. Fanning – the 15-year-old sister of Dakota Fanning – shot to fame after starring in Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere, alongside Stephen Dorff, while Elizabeth Olsen – the younger sibling of the famous Olsen twins – is known for her harrowing performance in Martha Macy May Malene. Heathcote’s first cinema hit was Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp and Eva Green, and Nyong’o is tipped to win big at awards season this year, for her role in the critically acclaimed 12 Years A Slave.

Both Miu Miu and its parent brand Prada are known for casting the future generation of acting talent in their campaigns. This week, Prada named Dane DeHaan as its new face, while former Miu Miu muses include Mia Wasikowska and Hailee Steinfeld. [Source]

Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s new variety show, “HITRECORD ON TV,” doesn’t premiere on Pivot until Jan. 18, but the show based around his collaborate production company is already proving to hold little bits of beauty.

In this exclusive clip above, Elle Fanning stars as a girl diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa. She’s night blind with little peripheral vision, and has never really seen a sky full of stars. The black-and-white video blends animation with live-action shots to create a story about family and hope.

“HITRECORD ON TV” will air live performances and short films created by artists, musicians, animators and normal folks from all around the world. Tony Danza even makes an appearance.

Catch the premiere of “HITRECORD ON TV” on Jan. 18 at 10 p.m. EST on Pivot, or watch the entire first episode on YouTube on Monday, Jan. 6. [Source]

15-year-old Elle Fanning stars in Likeness, directed by cinematographer Rodrigro Prieto (Wolf of Wall Street,) a film about the maddening horrors of eating disorders.

Prieto conceived the film with the help of his daughter Ximena, who has struggled with eating disorders and body image. Elle begins the film by navigating through a mine-field (mindfield is more like it) of stick-thin models at a party, representing the images and messages that young girls are bombarded with every day. When she gets to the bathroom, she sees herself in a distorted way, which makes her go to the toilet to throw up. It can be triggering for those with eating disorders, but it may also make you see your world in a different way.

For Prieto and his daughter making this film was healing for them. “This was an important healing device for us, and hopefully a way to help other kids say, ‘I feel like that. I understand that,’” Prieto says. “It’s about being in a society where we feel judged, and are judging ourselves.” [Source]

Elle’s new movie Low Down will screen at the Sundance Film Festival. I added the first batch of stills featuring Elle Fanning to the gallery.

Elle Fanning will go jazz in “Low Down” alongside John Hawkes, Glenn Close, Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage and Flea (what a cast, nice work Jeff Preiss). Official synopsis: This adaptation of Albany’s memoir explores her journey to adulthood while being raised by her troubled father, bebop pianist Joe Albany.

If you have a Vogue Australia magazine subscription you may have heard about its new sister publication – Miss Vogue Australia, which is aimed at teens who love fashion.

This issue’s cover star is Elle Fanning, who has stepped out of older sister Dakota’s shadow to make a name for herself as not only a great actress but also quite the style icon.

Fanning confesses that she has always loved acting and that’s why her parents allowed her to follow her dream. “I guess my mom saw us playing around the house and creating these really in-depth characters,” she tells the magazine. “My sister was older so she would always be the mom and I would be her kid. We would pretend we were homeless people and move around the house as though we were looking for shelter – we would always end up in the pantry. My parents would be like, ‘What are they doing in the pantry?’ and we’d be shivering, completely in character.”

Since her career has kicked off she has worked with a whole list of well-known names, including Angelina Jolie. She says of the actress: “The way she treated everyone was so ‘normal’ – ah ‘normal’ is such a bad word, but you know? She was just every day.”

Despite being so young, she tells Miss Vogue that she wouldn’t change anything about her career. “Some kids go to soccer practice and play games after school, I just do movies.”

Elle Fanning wants you to believe that she’s just an ordinary 15-year-old girl…but she isn’t.

“It’s just what I do, you know?” the down-to-earth actress says. “Some kids go to soccer practice and play games after school. I just do movies.”

The teen and younger sister of actress Dakota Fanning has been acting since the age of 2 when most of us were playing with our Barbie Dolls when she played the younger version of Dakota in I Am Sam. Bit roles followed in Daddy Day Care, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Phoebe in Wonderland. And in 2011, Elle got her big break with a starring role as Alice Dainard in J. J. Abrams’ sci-fi-drama blockbuster Super 8. Now the bubbly blonde, who stars in 2014′s Maleficent opposite Angelina Jolie, is poised to be Hollywood’s newest It-Girl.

So when Vogue Australia decided to launch a younger edition for teens this year, titled Miss Vogue, the editors had only one little lady in mind. “Who is Miss Vogue? That was the question we asked ourselves when planning this inaugural issue,” said Miss Vogue Australia editor Alice Cavanagh. “There were some obvious answers and our cover girl, the infectiously giddy Elle Fanning, was definitely one of them. I fell in love with this genuine and uniquely stylish young person when I interviewed her in LA… She is even more likeable—if that is possible—in person.”

UPDATE: Echo Lake has also brought over Graciella Sanchez to work with Brittany Kahan on starting the talent component of the management company. Aside from the Fanning sisters, the other actors coming aboard are: Jonathan Jackson (Nashville), Gregory Smith and Travis Milne (Rookie Blue), Ivana Milicevic (Banshee), Jordan Gavaris (Orphan Black), Jacob Wysocki (Terri) and Marguerite Moreau.

EXCLUSIVE: As we kick off 2013, here’s a reminder that it’s a hard business. Dakota and Elle Fanning have left One Talent Management, where JJ Harris repped the actresses practically since they were babies. What happened is that the thesps were handled day to day at One Talent by Brittany Kahan, who is leaving them to start a talent management division at the production company Echo Lake, which previously repped filmmakers. She’s taking the Fannings with her. Dakota, coming to the end of the Twilight Saga films, just finished the Naomi Foner-directed Very Good Girls and the Richard Laxton-directed Effie, while Elle just finished Maleficent with Angelina Jolie and is attached to star in Olive’s Ocean. The actresses are agented by WME. [Source]
